B. Braun Canada launches the FIRST and ONLY Acetaminophen for Injection available in three sizes
MISSISSAUGA, ON – B. Braun Canada Ltd. (B Braun) a leader in smart infusion therapy, safe and effective pharmacy products, patient and provider safety, and sustainable health solutions is pleased to announce the launch of Acetaminophen for Injection in the Ready-to-Use Mini-Plasco® and Ecoflac® plus containers and available in three sizes.
Acetaminophen Injection is a non-opioid analgesic and antipyretic indicated in adult and pediatric patients for the short-term management and treatment of1:
- mild to moderate pain
- moderate to severe pain with adjunctive opioid analgesics
- fever
Acetaminophen is a well-known analgesic and is often give in a tablet format. IV administration of Acetaminophen can provide a faster and more reliable approach to pain management when compared to oral or rectal administration2,3. “B. Braun continues to lead the way with safe and effective solutions that add value to the Canadian healthcare system. Our Acetaminophen for Injection gives your staff the flexibility needed to provide the right dose to the right patient at the right time.” says Bob Comer, President of B. Braun Canada.
Acetaminophen for injection is a key component of multimodal pain management. Canada is currently experiencing the effects of an opioid crisis that has claimed the lives of over 40,000 Canadians since 20164. Mounting evidence supports the use of multimodal analgesia protocols that include IV acetaminophen for pain management that provide effective pain relief and decrease or eliminate the use of opioids and their associated complications5. Furthermore, other studies have demonstrated that reducing opioid use and including IV Acetaminophen for postoperative pain management has the potential to decrease opioid-related complication rates and costs from a hospital perspective6.
The Mini-Plasco and Ecoflac plus containers are brand new to the Canadian market. With great success in Europe for many decades, B. Braun Canada is excited to offer these innovative containers to Canadian clinicians. Both the Mini-Plasco and Ecoflac plus containers are not made with PVC, DEHP or natural rubber latex7. The Ecoflac plus containers are designed to prevent microbial ingress prior to spike8. They collapse as fluids are being administered. The Mini-Plasco container with an integrated finger stopper is designed for needle free access to the medication in the pharmacy. Both containers do not need an overwrap and are therefore designed to reduce plastic waste in hospitals. The 50 mL Ecoflac plus and 10 mL Mini-Plasco containers make up B. Braun’s pediatric offering for Acetaminophen Injection.
